Best Young Marketer Award 2005
I still remember seeing a marketing competition for the BEST Young Marketer Award in SWA magazine in 2004 which was organised by SWA, Markplus Consulting and Indonesian Marketing Association - IMA.
Handing the award to me is Hermawan Kartajaya also known as Asian Marketing Guru by The Chartered Institute of Marketing, founder of Markplus Consulting and Philip Kotler Asia.
The competition required entrants to submit an essay of marketing and business achievements which will be judged by a panel of 5 judges including:
1. Joe Kamdani - Chariman of Datascript
2. Pri Notowidigdo - Senior Partner of Amrop Hever
3. Dyah Hasto Palupi - Redaktur Kompartmen of Majalah SWA Sembada
4. Yuswohady - Consultant of Markplus & Co Consulting
5. Didiek Suprapto - Director Academic Relations of Indonesian Marketing Associations
Finalists presented materials on business marketing and advertising, achievements and business results and were also interviewed by the panel of judges. It was a tough call, entering the competition means that I have to spend much time after work to prepare the essays and presentations which is like “back to school” haha! But anyway, with my wife’s support, I thought I should have a go at it.
The competition was tough too as the entrants all came from multi nationals and large corporations in Indonesia which has huge marketing budgets to run great marketing campaigns. We have none of that in our business as a local Indonesia Supermarket | Macan Group. We managed our marketing campaigns mostly from sponsors!
How surpised I am to actually be able to compete and win the competition. To be honest, I did put in alot of effort and I also played to win! We all should play to win with anything that we undertake as all half hearted actions bring no results anyway, so if you are not puting your best effort, why waste time.
So again, be inspired my fellow young marketers, if you never try, you will never win!
